3 Factors to Consider Before You Schedule Eyelid Surgery

Eyelid surgery is a wonderful way to bring out a beautiful and youthful appearance to your face. Your eyes are the first point of contact for everyone you interact with throughout your day. Continue reading to find out more about what the procedure involves and who is the best candidate for it.

Who Benefits From Eyelid Surgery the Most?

Eyelid surgery is aimed at individuals who have excess skin and an overall droopy appearance with their eyelids. This can also take the form of eyes looking more sunk in due to the lack of elasticity in the skin around the area. This can make your eyes seem somewhat dull or less pronounced, and generally older than is even accurate for your age. You’re right, it’s not fair! More often than not, there isn’t a direct cause as to why this happens; the area around the eyes just starts to look this way for everyone eventually. However, there are a few correlations to this effect occurring sooner due to lifestyle habits. This could take the form of being out in the sun for extended periods, artificially tanning often, or even smoking. All of these do not benefit your skin in the long term, whether it’s the areas around your eyes or in general.

There are also a few references out there that could be partially genetic, if you have family members with sunk-in or droopy eyelids, you most likely will get them eventually yourself. No matter the case, if you are interested in giving your eyes a youthful look, eyelid surgery can be the answer.

What Can I Expect From the Procedure?

The goal of this procedure, besides giving you a more youthful appearance around the eyes, is to do so while making it look as natural as possible. We are not aiming to give your eyelids a “tight” look; we are going for youthful, supple, and beautiful. There are a few different types of this procedure we can use to accomplish this goal. There is a typical eyelid surgery method where we will make a small incision on the upper lid, lower lid, or both and remove excess skin and fat.

In some cases, we can also go from inside the eye and achieve the same goal without having any external scarring. This varies from person to person, and our doctor will let you know which would be best for your situation and goals.

It will take some time after the procedure to see your results as healing needs to occur first. Immediately after the procedure for about 24 to 48 hours, there will be some swelling and bruising that will need to come down first. And then proper recovery will need to take place some weeks after. But in return, the results of this procedure can last anywhere from 10 to 15 years within reason.

How Long Is Recovery Time?

As we mentioned, the first couple of days after will be the most intense in terms of swelling or bruising, but a mixture of pain relievers and medicated eye drops will be prescribed to help aid recovery. From there, it is important to take time to heal and not do anything strenuous for a week or two, depending on the individual. Further recovery and a return to your normal routine are possible between three and six weeks. So if you have any severely urgent matters to attend to, it would be wise to wait on this procedure until you have time to recover. That way you get the most beneficial results from the procedure.
