You may notice that your breasts have changed shape or firmness over time. This can happen for many reasons: genetics, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight changes, or simply aging. As the skin stretches and loses elasticity, the breasts may sit lower or appear less full than before.
A breast lift, or mastopexy, can raise your breasts for a younger look. At Desert Hills Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Hayley Brown, M.D., FACS, a board-certified plastic surgeon, performs each breast procedure with skill and an artistic eye. She’s known throughout Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada, for creating results that complement your natural figure.
Goals of Breast Lift Surgery
A breast lift procedure can accomplish the following goals:
- Move the breasts and nipples to a higher position
- Make the breasts more even in size and placement
- Add more fullness near the top of the chest
- Make the areolas smaller and better proportioned
- Create a smooth, firm shape that holds over time
- Help bras, swimsuits, and clothing fit more comfortably
- Keep your current cup size or adjust it with or without implants
Who Is a Candidate for Breast Lift Surgery?
Ideal candidates are women who experience sagging or loss of shape due to aging, pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight changes. A breast lift may also benefit those with uneven breasts, enlarged areolas, downward-pointing nipples, or naturally low breast position. Patients should be in good health, not smoke, and have realistic expectations about their results.
Breast Lift Techniques
Dr. Brown customizes each procedure based on the degree of lift needed, breast size, and tissue quality. Techniques range from a periareolar lift (for minimal sagging) to a vertical “lollipop” lift or a full “anchor” lift for more significant reshaping.
Scars are placed along natural breast contours and fade gradually over time. Most patients find that the confidence and comfort of wearing fitted clothing and swimwear far outweigh the visibility of well-healed scars.
Breast Lift vs. Breast Reduction
Many people assume that a breast lift reduces breast size. In reality, Dr. Brown focuses on maintaining as much natural volume as possible while improving shape and elevation. If desired, a breast implant can be placed during the lift to increase size, or small amounts of tissue can be removed for a lighter feel.
"I had a breast lift done December 2021. I did a lot of research and had several consultations. From the first phone call all the way through my last post op appointment I’ve been extremely pleased with everyone at the practice. Raquel, Krystie and Stephanie are wonderful and welcoming. Alethea is so sweet and is amazing at what she does. Dr. Brown made me feel comfortable through the whole process. She explained what I could expect and answered all my questions. She made me feel at ease when I was nervous right before my surgery. This all made my decision to go with Dr. Brown a no brainer. My only complaint is that I didn’t do this sooner. Oh…and the results are amazing and so worth it! Thank you to Dr. Brown and her wonderful staff."
What to Expect During the Procedure
Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Dr. Brown makes incisions around the areola and, if necessary, vertically down to the breast crease. Skin and tissue are tightened, the nipple and areola are repositioned, and excess skin is removed as needed. The nipple remains attached to the underlying structures for safety and preserved sensation.
For women who want more fullness, an implant can be added at the same time through an augmentation-mastopexy.
Breast Lift Recovery and Results
Patients return home the same day wearing a supportive surgical bra. Some swelling, tightness, and bruising are expected for the first few weeks. Drains may be placed temporarily, depending on the extent of the procedure. Most patients return to light work within one to two weeks, while strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided for about four to six weeks.
The breasts may appear high or firm at first, but they gradually soften and settle into a natural position within several months. Wearing a supportive bra long-term helps maintain results and minimize stretching.
Cost of Breast Lift Surgery
The cost of breast lift surgery typically ranges from $15,000–$22,000, depending on anatomy and surgical complexity. During your consultation, Dr. Brown will review your treatment plan and provide a personalized cost estimate. While the procedure is considered cosmetic and not covered by insurance, Desert Hills Plastic Surgery Center accepts cash, credit cards, and financing options through CareCredit and Prosper.
Other Options to Consider
Some patients choose to combine a breast lift with other procedures, such as:
- Breast augmentation for added volume
- Liposuction or abdominoplasty for full-body contouring
- A “mommy makeover” to restore pre-pregnancy shape
- Breast implant removal with lift for stretched or deflated tissue
