Should I Wait to Get Breast Implants until after Having Children?

Breast augmentation can be a great way to achieve the beautiful breast appearance you desire. It’s important to remember that the decision to get breast implants is very personal, and the right time to undergo the procedure is different for everyone. One factor you should consider when making this decision is whether you plan on having children in the future.

It is very common for women to undergo breast augmentation prior to having children. Many young women find that their procedure helps them feel better about their bodies, providing the added self-confidence necessary to experience deeper connections and relationships with romantic partners. Therefore, it’s often worthwhile to undergo breast augmentation now, especially if you’re not planning on having children in the immediate future.

The good news is that breast augmentation will not impact future pregnancies, and the vast majority of women are still able to breastfeed after their procedure. In addition, there are several clinical studies which demonstrate that breast implants do not impact the health of the child while breastfeeding.

However, it is important to understand that your breasts will most likely undergo certain changes during pregnancy, and this may potentially have an adverse impact your breast augmentation results. It’s impossible to predict the exact nature of these changes or how they will impact your breast augmentation results since every woman’s pregnancy experience is unique. But this is certainly a consideration to keep in mind when deciding if it is the right time to get breast implants.

If you are no longer satisfied with your breast appearance after pregnancy, there are options to help restore the initial results you achieved. In some instances, Dr. Brown may recommend a breast augmentation revision procedure. This is effective if you’ve lost breast volume after pregnancy or simply feel that the shape of your breasts have changed as a result of having children. If you experience significant sagging after childbirth and breastfeeding, then Dr. Brown may recommend a breast lift to restore a perkier breast appearance.

It’s important to discuss any future pregnancy plans with Dr. Brown during your initial consultation. She’ll work with you to help you determine whether this is the right time to move forward with your procedure. In general, if you aren’t planning on having children for a while, then it will most likely be a good time to get breast implants. However, if you are going to start a family in the next year or two, you might want to consider waiting until after you have children to undergo your procedure.
