Liposuction Is Not a Tool for Weight Loss

It can be difficult to maintain a healthy weight and slim figure during normal times. Amid a public health crisis — during which millions of people are spending more time sedentary, stress eating, and falling off their exercise routines — it’s much harder. You’re certainly not alone if you’ve put on weight in recent months. But if you’re thinking about getting liposuction to lose that weight, you may need to reconsider.

There are several reasons why liposuction shouldn’t be used as a tool for weight loss:

  • In order to maintain optimal levels of safety, there are limits to the amount of fat that can be removed during your liposuction procedure. This amount of fat won’t be sufficient to achieve any kind of significant weight loss.
  • While the fat cells removed from the treatment region will not regenerate, it’s still possible to gain weight in the future if you don’t have the tools and commitment level necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle moving forward. This weight gain will result in fat deposits in other areas of your body, which may ultimately create an unbalanced body contour that adversely impacts your final liposuction results.

Keep in mind that liposuction is a body contouring procedure intended to remove stubborn pockets of fat that have been resistant to your fitness efforts. It’s not a quick fix to help you shed pounds. Ideal liposuction candidates should already be near their target weight and living a healthy lifestyle that will support their success following surgery.

During your initial consultation, Dr. Hayley Brown will evaluate your body type and discuss your diet and exercise habits with you to ensure you’re a suitable liposuction candidate. If you’re currently overweight, you’ll need to get close to your ideal weight prior to undergoing liposuction. That is the only way to ensure that you receive the beautiful results you desire and that you have the tools necessary to maintain these results for years to come.
