Medical Term: Otoplasty

Who is a Candidate?

• Abnormal looking ears from trauma or genetics
• A torn earlobe from earrings
• Ears that are prominent and protrude

Goal of Surgery:

• To correct the disfigurement
• Improve your self-esteem

Procedure Description:

• The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under local or general anesthesia
• A small incision is made behind the ear and the underlying cartilage is repaired or modified

Postoperative Course:

• A compressive dressing is applied to the ears for several days, which is then replaced with an elastic headband to be worn at night for a few more weeks
• Mild discomfort is relieved with oral pain medication
• Most patients return to work after several days
